To guarantee a winning treat that everyone will love, make sure to use salted crackers to balance the sweetness of the toffee and chocolate.

How to make Christmas crack? Layer aluminum foil over a deep baking dish. Then, put a layer of salted crackers on top. Next, melt butter and sugar over medium heat and let it gently boil for 5 minutes. Carefully pour it over the crackers and bake in the oven for 5 minutes. Then sprinkle chocolate on top and watch as it melts.

Unleash your imagination and decorate your Christmas crack with crushed nuts like pecans or sprinkles. You can always swap out the chocolate chips in the recipe for a milk chocolate hazelnut spread.

Christmas crack ingredients

40 salted saltine crackers

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups milk chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Heat your oven to 350F. Get aluminum foil and lay it on a large baking sheet. Make sure the foil is bigger than the sheet.

2. Make one layer of crackers on the aluminum foil and fold up the edges. So that once you pour the chocolate on top, it doesn’t spill out.

3. Melt butter in a saucepan on medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar and slowly bring to the boil.

4. Let the toffee gently boil for another 5 minutes. Stir continuously. Then, take off the heat.

5. Pour the butter mixture over the crackers and spread evenly. Put in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.

6. Take it out of the oven and immediately scatter chocolate chips on top.

7. Let the chocolate get warm and shiny so you can spread it easily over the toffee.

8. Next, sprinkle any other toppings on top.

9. Put it in the refrigerator for a few hours to harden. Then, break it into small chunks.

How to store Christmas crack

Christmas crack keeps well for days. It’s ideal to make a big batch and have it on hand when unexpected guests come turn up over the silly season.

To store Christmas crack, put it in an airtight container. You can keep it in the kitchen for about 4 days. Or in the refrigerator for roughly two weeks. It can even be stored in the freezer for one month. Just make sure to place parchment paper between each layer so it doesn’t all freeze in one lump.
